Kerrie Sullen is now Director of Restorative Works, the Australian partner organisation of the International Institute for Restorative Practice. After 10 years of working and leading using this framework, this relationship has enabled Kerrie to share what he has learnt and bring restorative practices and principals to hundreds of schools and organsiations across the country – working at all levels to improve relationships and focus on the right conversation.

Restorative organizations are intentionally conditioned by principles, values, practices and priorities of Restorative Practices or Restorative Justice. Restorative Works is an example of a restorative organization.

Restorative Works have embedded Restorative Practice in a Youth Organisation and achieved 6th Best Work Place Culture in Australia in 2016, based on the idea of 4 pillars of Restorative Practice:

  • Self – building self-awareness and accountability in our staff;

  • Colleges – as a team, having explicit practice conversations and using this framework as the basis for all our interactions;

  • Clients – giving them the tools and strategies to continue to build, strengthen and restore their relationships to be successful in life; and,

  • Community – sharing this practice and ways of working with others as we know that it works

In their session, Kerrie and Grace will share their journey of developing a restorative organisation and teach participants how the basic elements of restorative practice and the simplicity of an explicit restorative framework had overwhelmingly positive results for workplace culture:

  • Increasing dedication and work output;

  • Reducing staff turnover;

  • Increasing pride and camaraderie;

  • Increasing collaboration between staff and management;

  • Reducing absenteeism;

  • Repairing relationships and improving attitudes; and,

  • Empowering leaders
